How CARER helps in a hard moment

CARER's crisis and safeguarding support is designed to be there when things feel frightening — for you, or for the person you care for. It's built to be free, one tap away on every screen, and available even offline and before you've signed in. It works whether or not the companion is running.

It supports four kinds of hard moment:

  1. When you feel unsafe, or don't want to go on.
  2. When you're at breaking point and can't do this anymore.
  3. When the strain has you frightened of what you might do to the person you care for.
  4. When the person you care for is hurting you.

In every case, CARER responds without shock or judgement. It holds the feeling, never validates a harmful act, and puts the right route one tap away. It won't label anything "abuse" or "neglect," it isn't an assessor, and it will be honest that it can't contact anyone on your behalf. If you can't speak aloud because someone's nearby, it offers a text route first.
